In Mark 7:1-23, Jesus confronted the scribes and the Pharisees for their hypocritical practice of setting aside God’s law for their own traditions. Jesus taught that what truly defiles us before God is not what we put into our bodies what comes out of our hearts. That means no amount of self-improvement can make us righteous before God, but only a new heart. The question this passage confronts all of us with is this: Is your worship of God lip service or is it from the heart?
